Okay. I know Muesli has talked about it, but I have to, too. I just installed Superkaramba, Kroller, Liquid-Weather, System-Slick-Blue and slicker - amazing.

My KDE looks so smooth now. On the bottom there's a launch bar for my favourite applications, called kroller, and guess what? It has the nifty Mac OS X effects: zooms in on mouse over, bounces on start. Beautiful.

On the top, slicker displays a nifty task bar, right above the system slick blue superkaramba module, that displays the time, memory usage, and more quicklaunch icons.

On the topright corner I have a weather forecast for my city.

Now if that doesn't look killer, go away :) Here are the things you need:

1. apt-get install python2.2
2. apt-get install python2.2-dev
3. apt-get install libxrender-dev
4. apt-get install superkaramba
5. apt-get install slicker
6. download some modules for superkaramba
   • KRoller
   • Liquid Weather
   • SystemSlickBlue
7. Enjoy

Since I didn't find a simple perl playlist generator, I chose to do my first perl script and made one. I'm needing this, because my XMMS dies, when I tell it to generate a playlist from a bunch of mounted samba shares (containing thousands of files).

So here's LuFu.pl (click to download)...

Call it like this:

     ./LuFu.pl /home/j/mnt/ /home/j/playlist.m3u 1

The trailing 1 tells LuFu to also scan the mp3 info tag, so that your player doesn't have to anymore (saves bandwidth).
