The other day, I wrote about
how to print with lp/lpr in linux. I am now using CUPS, because printing with the regular lp/lpr was too slow - the printer (HP Laserjet 1200) wasn't printing all pages in a row, but it was "stuttering". Prints a page. Pause. Prints a page. Pause. And so on.
Hunz told me to use
CUPS. I installed CUPS, and everything works like a charm. I can now even print two pages on one (makes sense when printing manuscripts for university, and such).
So I installed the debian packages
cupsys-client, cupsys-pt, cupsys-bsd and removed
lpr, adjusted some CUPS settings (print two pages on one, paper size, etc...) in the KDE Control center (if you have KDE, make sure you have
kdeprint/kdelibs3-cups installed). My HP1200 is now printing at high speed again.
Why I had to do this? Well, when I arrived at my university to study theoretical computer science at 9am this morning (exam on friday, 24th), I found out my backpack doesn't contain the documents I need (anymore). I seem to have left them in the library yesterday. Everything's gone: manuscript, exercises, personal notes, and so on... I replaced the manuscripts and exercises now, but my notes are gone forever. Damn. I mean - who takes that stuff home. It ain't useful for anyone but me. Assholes!
