The other day I started playing around with PHP and GD to see how text rendering with PHP looks nowadays. I wasn't so happy with the results and therefore implemented simple subpixel rendering with PHP. In this article I give an introduction to subpixel font hinting, sample PHP code and lots of screenshots (including macro-shots - you will even get to see real subpixels of a real monitor. Whoa!).

Das passiert natürlich nur, wenn ich Milch trinke. Heute habe ich mich zu einem Glas Latte Macchiato aus einem Jura-Kaffeevollautomaten hinreißen lassen. Mit dem Laktosenichtvertragen geht es mir übrigens wie 90% der schwarzen Afrikaner, laut Wikipedia.
