
Ever since TFTs became cheap, I've been a fan of using two screens at once. I usually had two (more or less) equally sized TFTs sitting on my desk, both connected to the same workstation. At some point I ditched my old G5 PowerMac and replaced it with a MacBook. On the upper right corner, you can see my first laptop+external screen setup (click to enlarge). I still had the external keyboard, mouse and monitor left over from my PowerMac, so I figured why not use it. After a while I was tired of having the two screens sitting next to each other but totally un-aligned.
When I switched laptops again, I finally got me a little stand to put
the laptop on, so it's screen is about next to the external monitor. As you can see on the image to the left, this setup was a lot better than what I had before, because the two displays
felt a little more like one canvas. I was happy and stopped thinking about screen-alignment. Yesterday, though, I was in the office and had an external monitor - but no external
keyboard and mouse. I put the laptop right in front of me, with the
external screen right next to it. It was okay, but...
