Yesterday was a glorious day. Let me start one week earlier though. I was talking to sterling on AIM when he sent me a link to two hilarious trailers of the new Borat movie. After I checked them out I knew even more i HAD to see this movie. Unfortunately, it comes out on November 3rd, when I'm already back in germany. On top of that, it usuaally takes more 6 months until the movies are released in Germany. Too bad. But read on...
Myspace.com to the rescue! They have this special profile you can add to your friends list and you get the chance to see selected movies over a month before their release date, for free. I created an account, printed my profile page, picked up Sterling and we went to San Francisco!
We arrived at the cinema around 5pm, the movie started at 10. The line was already 70 people long and we sat down on the floor, like everyone. Luckily the line was next to the arcade games, so the wait was not too boring. At around 7pm there were more than 300 people waiting in a line that stretched over 3 floors of the cinema. At around 9 they started letting people into the theater.
They waited until every seat was used, and then.... Borat arrived! He was there! In Person! People freaked out, he was instantly surrounded by his fans. I was so close I almost got to touch his Moustache, but eventually didn't. He gave a little speech, the whole audience, except for me, of course, sang a song with him, and the movie started. I'm sure there will soon be Update 10/22/06: There are videos on youtube showing his bath in the fans, on this particular one you can see Sterling and me. A great movie, you HAVE to see it. But I don't want to spoil it so I'll stop talking about it :-)
Oh yeah, one more thing: On his way to the Restroom, Sterling high fived the real Borat. WHO YOUR DADDY!!!!
